What are the main objectives of the program?

To give students a head start on their Beauty School hours while learning key aspects of the Cosmetology curriculum that the State Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics mandates. In Maine and New Hampshire, an individual must receive 1,500 clock hours of instruction and hands-on learning before they can take the State-level licensure exam to become a professional within the industry.

This licensure is also needed if the individual aspires to receive service payment. The SRTC Cosmetology program allows students to receive up to 650 clock hours towards this professional license in either state.

How does the program incorporate hands-on learning and practical experience?

Students perform hands-on activities every day! Some days, we are working on haircutting angles, and other days, we are working on chemical applications. Students run our clinic floor as if we are a full-running salon. Specific sanitation procedures need to be done every day to fall in line with our state standards.

What resources and equipment are available to students in the program?

Students have all the tools needed to perform daily tasks in class; these tools, as well as equipment, remain in the Cosmetology space. Upon graduating from High School, students will receive a complete Beauty School kit provided by their school of choice should they aspire to continue within the hair industry.

Are there any partnerships or collaborations involved in the Cosmetology Program?

SRTC Cosmetology has professional partnerships with Paul Mitchell Systems in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Spa-Tech in Westbrook, and Empire Beauty Schools in Somersworth, New Hampshire. These school locations have accepted numerous students from the SRTC Cosmetology Program who wish to continue their professional education after High School.
