Dear Students, Staff, and Families,

As we anxiously await spring to arrive, I wanted to provide an update on how the Sanford School Department will utilize snow days for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.

As of March 15th, we have used five traditional snow days, which means our last day of school is Tuesday, June 13th.

After researching using remote learning days in place of any future snow days, we plan to use traditional snow days and only use remote learning days if our last day of school moves into the following week (the week of June 19th).

If that is the case, we will look to use remote learning days because Monday, June 19th, is a federal holiday, and there would be no school on that day.

Overall, we believe that remote learning days are not in the best interest of our district under these circumstances. Reasons include the advanced coordination of shelf-serve meals, the impact on our school nutrition program, and the challenges associated with remote learning for certain student populations.

We will continue to keep people updated and let you know if anything changes.

Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,

Matt Nelson

Superintendent
