How can you combine St. Patrick's Day and math? Mrs. Sturtevant solved this by having her 1st graders learn about graphs. Her students learned to input data into a graph looking at the various ways Lucky Charm cereal can be categorized.

As with everything this year staff, parent, and students have had to be very flexible. In the past a standard in 4th grade music was learning to read and play notes. Many of you remember the plastic recorders. With COVID-19 restrictions not wanting large volume of air being dispersed, our music teachers have become creative and flexible by teaching students how to meet these standards by learning to read and play notes on ukuleles.

On Monday Ms. Thomson's kindergarten class was making a paper chain where each link represents a book they have read. Mrs. Hallissey challenged the class to read enough books that the paper chain would be taller than her. Today Ms. Thomson measured her class's paper chain next to Mrs. Hallissey. Challenge met!

Every month Margaret Chase Smith School has a theme where students participate to help them grow socially/emotionally. March's theme is Growth Mindset. To help students with this concept Mrs. Hallissey has created a saying that all students recite each morning, and she has posters on display with growth mind set sayings.
