Welcome back to school

Superintendaent's Message

On behalf of the school committee, staff and faculty of the Sanford School Department I welcome you all back to the 2018-2019 school year. This year promises to be a year full of exciting changes as we move into our new high school and technical center, begin construction at the Margaret Chase Smith School, and start the renovation and repurposing of the current high school/tech center facility.

The opening week of school provied us all with the challenge of coping with extreme heat and humidity. Kudos go to all our staff for finding ways to teach our students with such challenging conditions. This week's weather promises to be much more conducive to learning.

Bussing is always a challenge the first week as we get the routes sorted out. Thanks to our bus company - Ledgemere, for working hard to keep on schedule while providing safe and reliable trasnportation for our students. There are still some "bugs" to work out, but each day seems to run smoother.

This year we also welcome many new teachers and staff to all our schools. We have 45 new teachers this year along with several ed techs, custodians, food service staff and support staff.

We are excited to annouce that in the next few weeks we will be releasing a new Sanford School Department "App" for both iOS and Android. The app will provide students, parents, staff and community members with quick, up-to-date information, announcements and articles of interest about all the Sanford Schools. We will also be changing our website and Instant Alert system to a fully integrated system with the new app. Stay tuned for more information about the new app, website and notification system in the next few week.

Thanks for supporting your schools.
